Privacy Policy

Imaginary Productions takes your privacy very seriously. When it comes to the core functionality in Imaginary Captions, we have no idea what you are doing or who you are. We do not log any of your activity, and there is no interaction with our servers except to check if you are logged in (and, only if the app things you are logged in for some reason).

The only time we know anything about you is when you use the in-app purchases to leverage cloud services.

Personal Information

The simplest situation is if you purchase a Bring Your Own Cloud subscription. We have to run this purchase through our servers to validate your subscription. No personal information comes our way and we are not storing anything permanently about this activity.

When you enter your cloud API keys, they always stay on your device and are stored securely in the Apple keychain. We do not log these keys in any way, and we never take them off your device.

The other situation is when you use our cloud services. In that scenario, you must create an account with us. We ask for only the most basic information to make sure you are a valid user and so that we can track your usage credits. The information we track is email, first name, last name, and in-app purchases. You do have the right to be forgotten, but exercising this right will result in the loss of any unspent credits.

Caption Information

As above, your caption information never leaves your laptop unless you submit it to a cloud service for translation, transcription, collaboration, or other reasons. In that scenario, it will be only because of explicit actions you take.

If you are using a BYOC service like your Amazon Web Services account, we send captions directly to the third-party cloud. The captions never hit our servers. Of course, we cannot control what your cloud vendor does once you submit them to those cloud services.

If you are using our credit-based services, your captions pass through our servers on their way to a third-party cloud with an account belonging to us. We work only with cloud providers who will not store your captions permanently unless its necessary for the functioning of the app (e.g. cloud collaboration). Similarly, we do not store copies on servers within our own control unless it is absoultely necessary to provide the service.
